Bloodthirsty Mary’s

October 31, 2009

blood thirsty marys

In the spirit of Halloween, kick start your morning/afternoon off with a “Bloodthirsty Mary” or when you’re hungover tomorrow morning and have already committed to hosting brunch, this is the perfect recovery drink, for all.

I have to admit, I’ve already enjoyed a bloody mary (OK, Bloodthirsty, sorry Martha) with a bowl of candy corn this morning. My guilty halloween pleasure.

Bloodthirsty Mary’s Recipe

3 cups tomato juice

3 Tbsp freshly grated (or drained) horseradish, plus more for garnish

1/2 cup vodka

2 tsp worcestershire sauce

2 Tbsp soy sauce

Juice of 1 lemon

1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper

Hot sauce, such as tabasco

Celery stalks, for garnish

Scallions, dark-green parts only, for garnish

Directions: In a pitcher, stir together tomato juice, horseradish, vodka, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, lemon juice, 1/4 tsp pepper, and hot sauce to taste. Pour into ice-filled glasses. Garnish with horseradish, celery, and scallions, as desired.

Thank you Martha Stewart, you’ve saved me once again.

Don’t forget olives! Jalapeno stuffed ones are a favorite of mine and can be found at Costco for cheap.
